Prof Matthew Malone PhD, FFPM RCPS (Glasg)
Director Medical Affairs, Chronic Wounds and Prevention
Matthew is the current Director of Medical Affairs for Chronic Wounds at Molnlycke Healthcare
having taken the position in January 2023. Prior to this Matthew was the Director of Research
for the South West Sydney Limb Preservation and Wound Research Academic Unit, and also
the Director for the High-Risk Foot Service at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney, Australia.
Matthew maintains a position as Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology,
School of Medicine, Western Sydney University, is a honary Senior Lecturer for the MSc in
Wound Healing and Tissue Repair at Cardiff University and is a Fellow, Faculty of Podiatric
Medicine, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow.
As a clinical academic Matthew contributed to International guidelines and was a member of
the IWGDF – Diabetic Foot Infection Guidelines and the WUWHS consensus on wound
biofilms. To date Matthew has 80 publications in peer reviewed journals and a H index of 25.
Matthew completed his PhD In 2018 with his thesis focused on the use of molecular and
microscopy techniques to better understand Diabetes Foot Infections and the role of biofilms
in human health and disease. Matthew’s research focus is to better understand host-microbe
interactions and how they intersect to cause wound infections, in addition to understanding
the cellular and biological reasons why wounds do not heal and the need for therapeutic
innovation.
